Map shows how abortion measures fared on the ballot in the 2024 election.
The Supreme Court’s 2022 decision over turned Roe v. Wade, on the constitution’s (federal) principle.
- Harris and the Democrats, argued that abortion of gestation is woman’s choice.
- Trump and the Republicans, agreed that the policy is referred to the states.
In (state) practice, the SCOTUS decision still leaves abortion to women to decide. As they will do, if necessary, in one U.S. state or next.
Otherwise, the truth is that no woman has an abortion, willingly. Unless in non-conducive (like without family planning, social care or economic support) or extraordinary, circumstances and never happily so.
Accordingly, states tend to compensate stricter provisions on abortion, with providence for stronger social care and economic support, for families and for single mothers, at politics and policy level.
For this reason, Trump and the Republicans, resonated with the public and with women and overall prevailed in the elections.
